SHAYNE HORAN
Head of Lower School
|
There are times in our educational journey when learning is nearly seamless, almost as if we acquire knowledge effortlessly. When I first visited Laguna Blanca, I immediately recognized the commitment to creating such an environment—an environment in which teachers inspire students through captivating, experiential lessons, allowing them to transpire into astute, curious learners. I am honored to join Laguna Blanca as the new Head of Lower School.
From the onset, Laguna Blanca Lower School students begin an enriching learning expedition that culminates at the end of fourth grade as they transition to the Hope Ranch campus for Middle School. During their journey, students embrace learning through the core subjects of reading, writing, math, science, and social studies, while our curriculum simultaneously interweaves the ancillary subjects of Spanish, art, music, physical education, library, and technology. Teachers transform learning into a process in which every individual is afforded the opportunity to reach his or her full potential. Whether gaining a solid foundation necessary for independent, meaningful reading or gaining leadership skills to guide prospective parents on an admission tour, there is a sense of confidence and accomplishment that resonates within each child.
During a daily classroom visit, it is quite common to witness students at the front of the room articulately leading a discussion or confidently presenting a project to the entire class. It is also common to witness teachers cultivating critical thought or encouraging higher level classroom discussions through carefully planned instruction across all curricular areas.
Laguna Blanca Lower School prides itself on instilling in our students a better understanding of themselves and the path that leads to a successful experience in Middle School and beyond. Each student leaves Lower School prepared for academic success, poised and articulate for effective communication, and well-rounded in order to embrace the community that lies ahead.
I encourage you to explore our website and, more importantly, I invite you to visit our campus to experience the true ambience of the Laguna Blanca community and this extraordinary learning environment—an environment committed to excellence.
